(from Lindenbrook / Pentaxeros)
The lens is not exactly a Tamron relabelling. Clearly it is fruit of the agreement Ricoh / Tamron both mentioned along time, but it seems clear that this is a partnership, in which Ricoh uses optical architecture Tamron, but nothing more.
While the optical arrangement is the same, the type of lenses is slightly different and also, the Pentax are treated with the HD coating which has demonstrated good results as in optical with this coating. Furthermore, the stabilizer takes Tamron, representing an internal structure in the different chassis and the outer construncción. Hence the outer difference in the Tamron include switches AF and VC. In the Pentax these two controls are not necessary, so the housing differs precisely at this point.
In the case of Pentax, it is certainly expected that the construction is better, providing both greater stability, as better sealing and of course, better quality control, weak point in the Tamron.
In addition, the MTF curves are not going to give us a real idea of the differences except general caractrerísticas, because normally the MTF charts are theoretical and in practice the performance between the two objectives can be quite a different. Realistically we should make a direct comparison of the two objectives
So in principle, we have a very worthy objective and reasonably priced, especially considering that it is not third party, but the brand itself, with all that this implies in terms of construction, quality control, compatibility and therefore actual use of all the features and performance of the camera.
It is certainly a good sign as far as the path that the brand seems to have adopted. It is clear that next year will bring us a few surprises.
Cheers
