"Today is my first official day of retirement. After seven years of commuting every week from California to Colorado, it seemed strange not heading to John Wayne Airport in Orange County last night.
I truly enjoyed my time at PENTAX. Throughout my career, I've been fortunate to never think about what I did as a "job". Prior to PENTAX, when I was at Canon, Polaroid, Adobe Systems, AGFA Gevaert and NEC I was always passionate about what I did and therefore never watched the clock, never worried about risks, never put myself before the company and always embraced or sought out those challenges and changes that keep some people awake at night. I feel sorry for those that have a job they're not happy with or who constantly complain about what's wrong with their life, their marriage, their job.

I also feel very fortunate to have met and interacted with many PENTAX photographers through this blog and my original Blogger feed. I'm the type of person that likes to be out visiting customers and accounts on a regular basis, as well as attend (actually work) trade shows and events. There's no better way in my mind to understand your customers than to meet them face-to-face. In essence, I believed that running this blog (which I did in my spare time) was just another way to stay in touch with users and fellow photographers.

Despite the obvious risks of being accessible, in hindsight, I think I learned a lot about what motivates photographers in general today. And specifically, PENTAXIANS are no different than any other customer group - you just want to feel that you're being heard by the company or brand you associate with. Thanks to all of you who shared your ideas and even criticisms with me.

As I'm no longer associated with PENTAX, I've removed any reference to the company on this blog as of today. Now that I have some time on my hand, I'm going to think about what the next logical step for my photography and blogging should be. Also, in response to a few emails I've received, PENTAX was very kind to let me keep some equipment. Of course the three lenses that I couldn't part with are the FA Limiteds - 31mm, 43mm and 77mm. I look forward to taking these "three amigos" with me wherever my future photo journeys takes me."
